Q1. Answer the following questions.
(i) What are the three qualities that played a major role in the author’s
Climb?
Ans: (i) Endurance, (ii) persistence and (iii) will power.
(ii) Why is adventure, which is risky, also pleasurable?
Ans: When an adventure is completed, it becomes a joy which lasts for a life time. It gives a sense of battle fought and won. There is a feeling of victory and of happiness.
(iii) What was it about Mount Everest that the author found irresistible?
Ans: The author found mount evrest more irrestible because it is the highest; the mightiest and has made many unsuccessful earlier attempts to conquer it.
(iv) One does not do it (climb a high peak) for fame alone. What does one do
It for, really?
Ans: The after effects of climbing a high summit satisfying. It is not just a physical climb. One who has been to a mountain top becomes conscious of his own smallness. He is changed.
(v) “He becomes conscious in a special manner of his own smallness in
this large universe.” This awareness defines an emotion mentioned in
the first paragraph. Which is the emotion?
Ans: That emotion is humility.
(vi) What were the “symbols of reverence” left by members of the team on
Everest?
Ans: The symbols o reverence left by members of the teams on Everest were (i)a picture of Guru nanak.(ii) A picture of Godness dugra, (iii) A relic of the Buddha and (iv) a cross.
(vii) What, according to the writer, did his experience as an Ever ester teach him?
Ans: His exlerince as an Everester has taught him to face life’s painful experiences with determination of firmness.

(iii) The beauty and the majesty of mountains pose a great challenge. They are a means of communion with God.
(iv) The writer and the party got worldwide fame. He got a sense of fulfillment.
(v) One gets a sense of fulfillment. It is the satisfaction of a deep urge to rise above one’s surroundings.
