Ans: The great stone face was work of nature. It was formed on the side of a mountain by huge rocks.

Ans: Young ernest whished that the stone face could speak. He hoped that its voice would be pesants.

Ans: The story connected with the stone face was that in future a child would be born in the valley who would become the greatest and the noblest person o his time. His face would resemble the stone face.
Q3. What gave the people of the valley the idea that the prophecy was about tocome true for the first time?
Ans: A young man named Gathergold had left the valley many years ago. By the time he grew old, he had grow rich. When he returned to his native valley, a rumor spread that he resemble the stone ace. People thought that the prophecy had come true.
Q4. (i)Did Ernest see in Gathergold the likeness of the Stone Face?
Ans: No, Ernest did not see any like ness of the stone ace in Gathergold.
(ii) Who did he confide in and how was he proved right?
Ans: He confident in the great stone face. After Gathergold’s death as his wealth and gold has already disappeared, it was generally had no resemble with the great stone face.

Ans: General Blood-and-thunder had risen to high position from a soldier. When he returned to the valley, his childhood friends said that the general had always looked like the stone face.
(ii) Ernest compared the man’s face with the Stone Face. What did he conclude?
Ans: Ernest could not find any likeness between the general and the stone face.
