Thinking about the poem

Ques.1. Which country or countries do you think "the northland" refers to?


The northland refers to the antarctic regionof the earth.

Ques.2. What did st. peter ask the old lady for? What was the lady's reaction?


st. peter asked the old lady a cake from store of cakes. The reaction was that the lady was selfish. She made a thin cake to give him. but it seems her large to be given. so, she put this cake too on the shelf. 

Ques.3. How did he punsh her?


He punished her by changing her human from into a bird or wood pecker. 

Ques.4. How does the woodpecker get her food?


The woodpecker gets its food by boring on the dry wood all the day.

Ques.5. Do you think that the old lady would have been so ungenerous if she had known who st. peter really was? What would she have done then?


The lady was very greedy and selfish So it is difficult to say what sehe would have done if she had known the saint peter. Perhaps, she would have given him some cake to eat. 

Ques.6. Is this true story? Which part of this poem do you feel is the most important?


No, it is not a true story. On the other hand, it is a legend to teach alesson. The most important part of the poem is when she is punished by saint for her greed.

Ques.7. What is legend? Why is this poem called a legend?


 A legend is and old story handed from generation to generation. The title of the poem indicates that it is a legend of the northland. It teaches a moral lesson only.

Ques.8. Write a story of ' A Legend of the northland ' in about ten sentences.


Once saint peter was travalling in the northland for preaching. He felthungry due to fasting. He came to the door of a cottage where an old woman was making cakes. St. peter asked for a cake. The lady was very greedy. So she put the small piece of cake on the shelf. She didn't offer him a single cake. At this saint grew angry and turned her to a woodpecker. Now this bird gets her food by making holes in the wood.
